Sakti Burman

Born in Kolkata, Sakti Burman received his foundational training at the Government College of Arts and Crafts before completing his studies at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His practice is distinguished by marbled, pointillist-like surfaces created through the interplay of oils and acrylics, alongside figurative, dreamlike compositions influenced by Renaissance frescoes and Indian mythology, seamlessly weaving together Indian and European cultural symbols and personal memory. A significant milestone in his career was the major retrospective In the Presence of Another Sky, held at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, in 2017. He has been honoured with several prestigious French distinctions, including the Order of Arts and Letters, the Médaille d'Or from the Société des Artistes Français, and the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 2016. The artist lives and works between New Delhi and Paris.
