Jatin Das
Born in 1941 in Baripada, Odisha, and trained at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai. Known for his powerful, expressive depictions of the human figure, characterised by dynamic lines, earthy palettes, emotional intensity, and themes reflecting human relationships, movement, and inner states. His major works include the iconic 7 x 68 ft mural The Journey of India: Mohenjodaro to Mahatma in the Indian Parliament, along with thousands of paintings, drawings, murals, and sculptures created over six decades. Recipient of major honours such as the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award, the Padma Bhushan, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and an honorary doctorate, with his works housed in important national and international collections. He continues to work actively, while also contributing to cultural preservation through teaching and the establishment of the JD Centre of Art in Bhubaneswar.
