Jagmohan Bangani is a contemporary visual artist from Uttarakhand, now based in Delhi, whose journey reflects resilience, scholarship, and a deep commitment to artistic inquiry. Raised in a small Himalayan village, he pursued higher education in Dehradun before earning a Master's degree in Painting from Garhwal University, where he was awarded a research fellowship by Lalit Kala Akademi in 2002. He later completed a second Master's in Fine Art at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, in 2005. His practice evolved from reflections on rural life and identity to a more layered, text-based abstraction shaped by his experiences in metropolitan and international contexts. Drawing from spiritual, philosophical, and literary sources, Bangani integrates scripts, languages, and layered colour fields to create meditative compositions that conceal and reveal meaning over time. A recipient of several prestigious honours, including Senior and Junior Fellowships from India's Ministry of Culture, the Ford Foundation Fellowship, and the Uttarakhand State Award, he has presented six solo exhibitions and participated in over sixty group shows worldwide. He is also the founder of the Bangani Art Foundation, supporting emerging artists from the Himalayan region.
